What is so special about this Instant Pot Korean Beef Recipe?

The very special thing about this recipe is that we don't have to worry about getting GOCHUJANG.

Gochujang or red chili paste is a flavorful, sweet, and fiery popular ingredient well known in Korean cooking.

It is produced using gochu-garu (chili powder), glutinous rice, meju (fermented soybean) powder, yeotgireum (barley malt powder), and salt.

The pleasantness comes from the starch of cooked glutinous rice, refined with saccharifying compounds during the maturation cycle.

What to use instead of GOCHUJANG?

I would suggest if you can purchase a container of gochujang sauce then you should.

If you can't use gochujang sauce (or simply don't have any desire to buy it), you can substitute a blend that comprises:

  • a little Sriracha,
  • a scramble of extra soy sauce,
  • a little extra additional orange juice,
  • and apple to taste all things being equal.
