Instant Pot French Fries without CrispLid

Fries with the Air Fryer Lid

So I know many people don't have the CrispLid, air fryer lid or Instant Pot duo crisp yet, and they still wanna make healthy pressure cooker french fries. That's why I created this recipe :]

The potatoes in this dish are really tasty, however they are not as crisp as the original recipe or the regular fried french fries.

So in fact you make something like baked potato strips.

Instant Pot French Fries (original version)

Can I use sweet potatoes?

Yes, you can use sweet potatoes for this recipe and make yam fries.

Can you use olive or other kinds of oil?

    • Corrie CooksCorrie Cooks

Yes you can :] In my opinion olive or canola oil are the best.

    • Jen

Yes! I just used olive oil. Coated small baby russets (enough for 2 servings *I'm the only one eating and cooking and cleaning ha ha*). And I put season salt on - for more of a Arby's taste. I'm making a cheeseburger for supper (I used to get Hello Fresh weekly food boxes and tossed my meat in my freezer. And the fresh ingredients dont last long. (But rather than tossing 6 baby russets, bc everything else went bad, I washed them, and sliced them, tonight. All that's missing is some jalapeno cheese sauce, for dipping & mushrooms, for my burger ... but everything is tastefully awesome!

Wow, that sounds great! Glad you enjoyed it!

Just wondered what you used to slice the potatoes. And how do the fries get crispy?

    • Corrie CooksCorrie Cooks

I'm using a simple knife since I'm an old fashioned guy :]
On this recipe unfortunately, the fries are not that crisp as I mentioned above.

Agree, same question. Me n tators dont mix well. My hunny can slice them small, was looking up instant pot instead of the deep fryer!

If you want crispy fries made easier, look into the crisp lid or an air fryer!

They were tasty and all, but def not crispy. What am I missing?

    • Corrie CooksCorrie Cooks

      Glad they were tasty.
It's hard to make them crispy without broiling them at the end. Without that step, the potatoes are more like boiled \ baked potatoes.

    • Luann

It says at the bottom of the recipe to put them under a broiler for a few min to crisp them up. This recipe does not crisp them much.

I just made these. As others said, they were not crispy. I found they were like baked potatoes. I left the skin on my potatoes. I love potatoes in pretty much every form, so I’m not upset by the outcome. I simply have ideas for the next time I make these.

At least you liked and ate them :]
      Thanks for the comment.

How do you cook? What setting?

    • Corrie CooksCorrie Cooks

      Just a regular pressure cooking.

I just ordered the Instant Pot Duo Crisp, but read tonight that the IPDC is somewhat inferior as both an instant pot and air fryer - that it would be better to have a regular instant pot and stand alone air fryer. Elsewhere I read a convection oven works better to air fry. What are your thoughts? I've never used either, so new to all of it. I can see the Duo Crisp does not have all the pre-set settings. I assume that means I would just need to get recipes and follow.
